I played in a test of my friend Chris's scenario of the WWI action at Nery. It was a fun game, though perhaps not so much for the Germans, who were cursed with horrific dice.

One peeve reminded me why I don't play FOW: the "sliding scale" of representation for different types of weapons: small arms and support weapons and direct-fire artillery ranges use different scales and so come out with some silly resutls. Our 13 pdr field guns couldn't direct fire any further than the rifles of our supporting cavalry dismounts, which were outranged by our MGs. The German artillery on the ridge could target our guns directly, but we couldn't return the favour. More incentive to find a good set of WWI rules! (Mud and Blood are great, but I think that this action might stretch them to their limit, with entire regiments being involved rather than platoons.)

That said, it was fun to get out and play something different, and Chris has done a beautiful job painting up his troops!
