Etiquette: Basic rules of behaviour

Regardless of age, sex, or even status, ... these rules apply to all people. Some have forgotten about them, even call the old-fashioned, some just ignore them (cfr. emancipation). Well, they're wrong. The basics remain and will remain. If you want to be a gentleman, just apply them. And keep on applying them. And keep applying them. And keep applying them !!!!

This is the minimum of behaviour expected of anyone (M/F) who wishes to distinguish himself as someone worthy of respect. Being it towards an honourable judge, a police officer, or someone cleaning the streets, a bell boy, a shop attendant, or a waiter/waitress,.... just treat them with respect. Everybody likes is, everybody appreciates it !

We'll start with the first basic rule: Be polite

You'll get a hell of a lot more done from/by people with just a few magic words. Everybody knows the words, but not everybody uses them.

These magic words are: 'please,' 'thank you', 'excuse me', and 'you're welcome'.

Just use them to be polite. Some might appreciate it, some might not appreciate it. We don't care. We know how it's done, and we act appropriate. End of story.
