A few days ago I met Mr and Mrs Bullfinch*. They were searching the woodland floor for edibles. They were so engrossed in their foraging that they didn't pay me any attention (I was no more than five metres away). Or maybe they are just used to people, I spotted the pair along the main path through the woods. I felt privileged to watch the birds forage. I haven't seen the pair since, they must be nesting. I read that they usually lay their first clutches around mid May and I'll keep my eyes open for youngsters.
